[googlefont="Playfair Display"][googlefont="Alice"] We wrote a story in the fog on the windows that night But the ending is the same every damn time.
Evan adjusted her sunglasses and scanned the crowd for her boyfriend. She was sure that this was where he wanted to meet up with her. She ran her fingers through her hair and hoped that she would see him soon. She loved spending a week in Massachusetts with the Adkins family, but she did miss spending the time with him. It was hard enough with him going to Phalanx and her going to Primrose, but they were making it work. Evan fished her phone out of her pocket and sent a message to her best friend Astor. She knew that he was getting close with another girl, and she was going to have to check her over to make sure that this girl was good enough for her best friend. She knew that he still wanted to make sure that Casey had the best of intentions with her, and she honestly didn’t think that the skinwalker had a bad intention in his entire body.
She knew that he was a good guy. He was someone who she never would have been interested in before. She had been all about the bad boys, the ones who would grip her hips so mean and whisper false promises to try to get something from her. Then she met Casey at the coffee shop and he was everything that she needed. He was sweet, adorable, and he was a genuinely good guy. She didn’t think that he would be interested in someone like her.
Casey was a great guy and honestly she didn’t know how she got so lucky with him.

Casey was happy when Evan got to go away for the week, but it was exciting to get to see her when they finally got to meet up. He did keep in contact with her throughout the week, and she'd gotten messaged daily, but he kept it brief, not wanting to get in the way of her visit. When he got to the meeting spot, he looked around for her piercing eyes and light hair. When he caught sight of her, he approached eagerly. "Hey, Evan," he said in a sing-song tone, lightly kissing her lips and grinning. "Look-- I figured flowers would be a nice gesture... but flowers just sit around until they die so... I got you this," he explained, pulling a nicely wrapped gourmet cookie with an icing flower on top. "Sorry, I know it's corny. It's corny, right?" he asked, holding it out to her. He could have gone with coffee but working in a coffee place he'd done that a billion times already. He wanted to go with something different.
Actually getting to see her again was so exciting. With Evan, Casey could just breathe. He didn't care that he talked a lot, or that he was easily distracted. Not with her. She knew all his little tells and she cared so much when he was upset-- he was feeling pretty damn lucky.
"How was it? Talk to me." He was eager to hear of her adventures in Massachusetts. "Come on, I'll buy you lunch," he said, nodding his head and walking through the crowd.

[googlefont="Playfair Display"][googlefont="Alice"] We wrote a story in the fog on the windows that night.
She smiled when she finally spotted the curly mop of brown hair that was her Welshman. She was able to text him while she was away, but most of the time was spent just pretending that she could ever be part of a family that care for each other. Being around people who wanted to know how she was doing at Primrose. Who wanted to know what she wanted to do with her life. She had gotten spoiled in the week and she knew that she would be spending all of her time trying to regain that feeling of being part of a family. She kissed him back when he stepped up to her and ran her arms over his shoulders. Casey was much taller than her, and such a ball of sunshine that she couldn’t help but smile whenever they were together. Evan grinned when he pulled out the fancy cookie and used one of her hands to take it from him, the other staying firmly on his shoulders. She was an affectionate person, so having some form of contact with him was something she couldn’t do without. “It’s wonderful, thank you.” She pressed another kiss on his lips, lingering a bit longer to show him how much she enjoyed the thought he put into the gift.
They had been friends before they started dating. Her coffee habit made sure of that, but when they finally were able to just talk one day, she could see what kind of guy he was and how easy he was to talk to and just enjoy time with. When he finally asked her out, she didn’t think that she could say yes fast enough. He was sweet and someone who she thought would never want to give her the time of day.
“It was great. Delilah’s parents are really nice.” She tried to keep her homelife from everyone around her. They would say that she was lucky for having so much freedom in her life, That she could do what she wanted and that people would be jealous of it. The truth was that she was neglected in every way possible. Her father didn’t care about her, her step mother openly hated her. She had her brother and when she could run away to Ash’s family. “Really just spend the time hanging out with her and her brother. I think Delly is going to be spending time volunteering at Monroeville soon.” She added, holding his hand as they walked to someplace to grab some lunch together. “What about you? How was a week of being without your lovely girlfriend?”

Casey grinned as he felt her arms over his shoulders-- being close to her was the best after she went away. He was a pretty affectionate person-- despite playing it safe, he enjoyed physical contact. It gave him a sense of well-being he couldn't get from anyone other than Evan. It's wonderful, thank you. He chuckled, gladly returning the second kiss. He didn't even care if she ate the cookie. That hadn't been the point of the gesture. He just enjoyed putting thought into it and seeing the response it evoked from her.
Evangeline always intrigued Casey. She seemed to be almost his polar opposite, and she could be dark and mysterious and it was all so fun for him. It was fun to delve further with each meeting they had, getting to know more about the beautiful person that she was. "Love you," he said softly with a grin after she'd kissed him. He didn't say it all the time, but when he did, he meant it. For him, it was really a testament to his emotion, since CJ was often far more comfortable joking around than saying anything close to serious.
It was great. Delilah's parents are really nice. "That's great," he said genuinely, knowing that for her, it was a much needed escape from her own home life. Really just spend the time hanging out with her and her brother. I think Delly is going to be spending time volunteering at Monroeville soon. He nodded. "I'm glad her and her brother managed to entertain you for a week," he said with a grin. "Monroeville, eh? Well, that's cool, if she wants to. That place always made me a little skeeved just thinking about it." It wasn't that he judged the people inside-- it was more like he hoped he never ended up dangerous enough to get stuck there. "I'm sure they could use volunteers," he offered. It was probably a really good thing for them that Delilah was willing to do that.
What about you? How was a week of being without your lovely girlfriend? "Oh, devastating," he said dramatically, grinning. "It was alright. I hung out with Myka a lot, and Curtis gave me overtime on Wednesday." Which was cool... because... money. "Oh, hey! We got this new drink added to the menu. It has a lot of white chocolate in it-- it made me think of you. You should try it."

[googlefont="Playfair Display"][googlefont="Alice"] We wrote a story in the fog on the windows that night. Being with him, it was like she had never flirted with Aden in his family home. Having his hands on her, his lips against hers, it erased everything that she thought about Aden Kane Adkins while she was away. Casey and Aden were so different from each other. Casey could make friends with anyone who passed by him. Aden hated to be around too many people. She was both. She loved being the center of a party, but there were days when she loved just curling up with a good book. When she would just have a lazy Netflix day with Delly in their pajamas. She smiled at Casey, and knew that she could never tell Casey about her home life. To have him know that her beautiful home covered in white stone and choking ivy was a prison in every sense of the word. That her parents hated her and that they let her know it as often as they could. That her father joked about her mother’s suicide, that her step-mother wanted her to leave and never come back. When he reminded her that he loved her, she knew that he was telling the truth. That he genuinely loved her as much as she loved him. “I love you too, Casey.” She tangled her fingers into his soft curly hair and knew that they were good together. Too good to mess up with any sort of thoughts that she had about her best friend’s brother. Evan knew that there could be a time that Casey or Aden or Delilah would find out about her home life. That they would realize that her homelife was more than just the typical hands off rich parents who would rather spend time in Aspen or Geneva than spend time with her or Noah. “I just hope she stays safe.” She walked with him, holding his hand while they walked. It felt good to be with him, he was sweet and gentle with her. She thought about them curling up together with a good movie, a sweet dinner, and tender kisses. She knew that was the type of relationship she should want. Not the burning passion that she felt when she thought about Aden. About his hands rushing up her skirt while he pressed her against a wall. “I still have to meet this elusive Myka.” She commented and grinned when he mentioned the white chocolate drink. She had a soft spot for sweet things, thus her initial attraction to Casey. Casey was a sweet coffee drink, something that made her feel warm and cozy on the inside. Aden was a shot of stolen bourbon that burned going down and made her light headed. “I’m glad you got the overtime, I know you were fighting for it.” She knew that they came from two different worlds. Evan’s father gifted her with a private plane for her sixteenth birthday so she would be able to go where she wanted, when she wanted. Casey fought for overtime to save extra money. She never liked to flash her family’s wealth, but it was something that allowed her to be able to travel to see her best friend when she needed to get away from the horrors at home. 578 NOTES: they are adorable and Casey is a cinnamon bun

Casey wouldn't have known that Evan had even possessed any conflicting feelings. Being with her, he saw no flaws, and she really was with him. Her mind wasn't somewhere else, and he could tell. I love you too, Casey. He chuckled lightly, gently tucking a piece of her hair behind her ear and enjoying the affection from such a close proximity. He could just look at her all day. She was beautiful, and he was hers.
I just hope she stays safe. CJ nodded, lightly squeezing her hand with reassurance. "I'm sure she'll be careful. She's smart," he reminded. He knew that it was risky, but he also knew that the young woman knew how to take care of herself. "She'll come to you with new stories," he offered, because that'd be interesting. It was something new for all of them.
I still have to meet this elusive Myka. He grinned, nodding in agreement. "You absolutely do. She's not really social-- I mean-- not the type of person that would just walk up to you and start a conversation. But she's cool. Always moving." The woman's mind was a very quick-paced place. CJ kept up with it pretty well, having a similar outlook. Knowing that Myka didn't tend to get close to everyone she met, he felt honored that she had let him in. Evan meeting her would have been important to him, since they were both a large part of his life.
I'm glad you got overtime, I know you were fighting for it. "Curtis has been a hard ass lately," he admitted, smirking. "But I think I'm secretly his favorite." So... that worked out well for Casey and not so well for everyone else at the establishment. He didn't need to be guilty about it, though. He worked hard for his money. He grew up working hard for his money, and it was just something he really knew how to do. "Your jacket looks nice," he observed, grinning. "Haven't seen that one much, have I?" He wasn't the best when it came to recognizing clothes, but he liked to throw in those compliments when he could. "Adds to your 'badassery', for sure."

[googlefont="Playfair Display"][googlefont="Alice"] We wrote a story in the fog on the windows that night.
When he squeezed her hand, she did feel better. She laughed when he mentioned that Delilah was going to come back with new stories, “That, or her crazy self is going to get tossed in there with the rest of them.” She knew that her best friend could kick all sorts of butt, and there was something very effective about a simple splash of water in someone’s face.
She wanted to make a good impression on Myka, since she was so important to Casey but it just never seemed like they could cross paths. She would be in classes when Myka was around, or Myka would have to rush off somewhere before Evan could get to Phalanx. It was just not meant to be quite yet. She just hoped that the other woman could see how much she loved Casey and how much she wanted this relationship to work with him. She was younger, and they came from different backgrounds, but she still knew that he was an amazing guy that she liked spending time with.
“Well come on we all know you make the best stuff.” It was more than just his skill with espresso. Casey was able to connect with customers and always seemed happy to see them. It was what really attracted her to him in the first place. He made her feel special every time she went there and he would just smile and talk to her about anything. He had a positive energy that not many people in the world could have. She looked down at her jacket, a stark reminder that she did not have to work for her money. “Thanks, I think I got it from some thrift shop last time I was in Paris.”
She tugged the jacket a little closer and felt self-conscious about it, she hated when people would think that she was a spoiled little rich kid. She was but there was only so much she could do about it at this point in her life. “So where do you want to eat?”

That, or her crazy self is going to get tossed in there with the rest of them. CJ laughed. "In her defense, I could probably fit in there pretty well," he joked. Most people had moments of crazy every now and then. He certainly did. People probably thought he was crazy every time they saw his hands gliding through signs-- moving at lightning speed as he spoke.
Well come on we all know you make the best stuff. Casey just grinned, shrugging modestly He really never thought of his job as a skill. He just... did what he had to do and he worked hard to do it right. He really enjoyed it, especially since it prompted so many conversations with people all the time. Just the social aspect alone made it the perfect job for him. "I guess," he responded, scoffing. "Thanks, Evan." He appreciated the compliments, even though he was awkward at accepting them.
Casey forgot that Evangeline had money all the time. He had never thought badly of her for it, and he never thought she flaunted it. He understood that people came from different home situations... different family situations. He understood that she couldn't be blamed for coming from money. She could only be blamed for how she acted because of it, and Evan had never acted like a snob. It was one of the many reasons he loved spending time with her so much. Thanks, I think I got it from some thrift shop last time I was in Paris. "Is what they say about Paris true-- do they hate Americans?" he asked in good humor. He'd never had the opportunity to travel, with the exception of Wales, but it had never been a vacation. It was always more of a family reunion, and they only went once every few years because flying was expensive.
So where do you want to eat? He grinned. "I was hoping you'd ask," he said eagerly. "I was thinking we could try out that new place that just opened... the one across from the park. I was told they have good deserts from a moderately reliable source." So, naturally, he had to find out.

[googlefont="Playfair Display"][googlefont="Alice"] We wrote a story in the fog on the windows that night.
Being with Casey was amazing. He was so different from anyone else she ever dated. He didn’t want to just fool around with her, when they were together it wasn’t just ways to get into her pants, it was genuine love and care between them. She held his hand and leaned her head on his shoulder as she walked with him. He really cared about her and it was one of the first times she had that in her life. She knew that she could potentially tell him about her family, but she didn’t want to ruin it. She didn’t want to change how he looked at her. She didn’t want to see pity there.
She grinned at her boyfriend and knew that there could be a time where she was taking him home, but for now, they were walking to get something to eat and they loved each other. They were young and happy together. She knew that he cared about her, and that he wanted her to be happy and she genuinely was with him. There was a lot between them, and she knew that true passion like she felt towards Aden was overrated. She could develop that with Casey, but she couldn’t make the comfort and care that she had with Casey just appear with the pyro.
“I think it’s more they know that they have a reputation with us for being rude, so they’re rude to us first.” She tried to explain, “But I speak French, so most of the time I just blend in.” She admitted, knowing that she would love to take Casey to Paris. Maybe his next birthday she could surprise him with a trip. The two of them walking along the Seine while following the lights of the Eiffel Tower. “Maybe I could show you first hand.” She grinned, knowing that they could catch a concert in a park, they could walk around and just listen to music as it flowed from everywhere. “If you’d be interested, of course.” She grinned, knowing that they could have an amazing time together. Some space would be good for her, let her focus on Casey and push Aden from her thoughts completely.
“Oh that sounds amazing.” She was starving for something good. She had just spent the week with a professional chef family, but there was something missing from it. The soul of the south and the spices that scorched her tongue and flavors that swam in her veins. “How’s that song you’ve been working on?”

Casey grinned when Evan leaned against him, combing his fingers through her hair. It was a pretty good feeling-- having her so close that he could smell her hair. He listened to her explanation of French people with interest, nodding. "That makes sense. Attack before being attacked, right?" It was good to know-- it made the country as a whole quite a bit more appealing. But I speak French, so most of the time I just blend in. "Right," he confirmed. "Sometimes I forget-- French is one of your many talents," he pointed out with a grin. The language had always seemed difficult to him. Even if you memorized the words, pronouncing them was a whole other challenge. There was certainly something interesting about the way the language rolled over a person's tongue.
Maybe I could show you first hand. "Yea," Casey agreed, though the thought of actually going seemed abstract to him. "That'd be awesome. Isn't Paris supposed to be... like... one of the most romantic cities?" he recalled, a smirk forming at the corner of his lips. If you'd be interested, of course. "Oh, yea, of course," he assured, very adamant about it. "I'd just need time to save up." Saving the money wasn't even something that bothered him in the slightest. It was just something he couldn't pick up and do out of nowhere. He couldn't ask her to help with something like that-- he'd never want to bask in Evangeline's money.
Oh that sounds amazing. He chuckled. "I think it will be. I have faith in them-- but I haven't actually been there yet. I wanted to wait until we could try it together." So... basically, she'd received his disclaimer. If it sucked... they wouldn't be entirely surprised. He imagined it'd be pretty good, though, it being a local place absent of the apathy brought upon by chefs for larger chains.
How's that song you've been working on? Casey grinned-- the question almost surprising him. "You remember that, huh?" he asked, appreciative of the gesture. "It's coming. I had to play around with it a few times to avoid having to play an F chord," he said with much despair, though a smile was on his face. "It's just that one chord-- I don't understand why no one has invented an easier way to play it." It had pretty much been the bane of his existence, but he knew he'd figure it out.

[googlefont="Playfair Display"][googlefont="Alice"] We wrote a story in the fog on the windows that night.
No matter how much she craved being with Aden, there was something sweet about being there with Casey. Even with all of the thoughts that she had about the pyro when she was spending time with his family. No matter how easy it was to just sit and enjoy chocolate chip pancakes with him, there was something wholesome about just walking around with Casey. Their hands interlocked and heading to just enjoy a nice lunch together. She could stop thinking about Aden. It would be difficult, but she could stop herself from thinking about his lopsided grin and his sweet laugh. “Only cause of my grandparents.” She had learned from her grandmother one summer while in Paris, but her grandparents stopped speaking to her family when her father remarried the babysitter. She missed her grandparents, but her father wouldn’t speak to them and they were just as stubborn. Unfortunately, it was Evan and Noah who got the worst of it. When their mother died, they lost the only person who truly cared about them in their home. Then they lost their grandparents and lost the last people in the world who cared.
She grinned and nodded a little in agreement. “It can be. Walking along the Seine, the city all lit up. I haven’t been there in years.” Not since her father got remarried to the wicked witch of the south. She would be more than willing to pay for their trip. Better for her family’s money to go towards a trip for them, than spent injected into her step-mother’s mouth or a whole new wardrobe for the witch. “Okay, you don’t have to worry about the flight. Company plane.” If she and Delly could use it to fly to Italy just for the best gelato and to get out of studying for finals, then she could use it to try to gain that spark in her relationship. If the most romantic city in the world didn’t make her feel the same lust for her boyfriend that she did for Aden, then she wasn’t sure what would.
“Of course I remembered.” She nudged him a little in jest, it was one of the things that made her fall in love with him. He would sing for her and just play his guitar. She would get lost in him. They would sit and talk about everything about his life. About learning how to sign, having deaf parents, about being a skinwalker. She would listen to him talk, and they would listen to him play his music. She still didn’t know how to talk to him about life outside of Primrose. She didn’t want pity from someone who she loved being with.
“Still giving you a hard time?” She asked about the chord. “Maybe we can head back to Phalanx after we eat and you can play it for me.”

Only cause of my grandparents. Casey grinned, nodding. ”Still impressive,” he praised. ”You’re totally beautiful and talented and you should always remind yourself of that.” Being bilingual was cool. People liked to think that wealthier people never worked for anything on their own, but he knew Evangeline’s money didn’t make her lazy-- and being able to communicate with people in another country was certainly a feat that many Americans didn’t have. Just because her family spoke the language didn’t mean she acquired the skill overnight.
He grinned as she described walking the Seine, not even being able to imagine what it was like. ”I’ve seen pictures, but it has to be better in person.” He’d love to go. Really, anywhere he hadn’t been before would have been an awesome experience. Okay, you don’t have to worry about the flight. Company plane. He scoffed, almost in disbelief. ”Are you serious?” he asked, grinning and shaking his head. He wasn’t being judgmental-- he was legitimately excited that it sounded like a possibility. ”I’ll owe you for the rest of my life,” he joked.
Of course I remembered. He chuckled when she nudged him, shrugging. He was such an open person-- it was hard to believe anyone could remember everything that he said. Still giving you a hard time? ”Yes,”” he said in exasperation, as they walked into the restaurant. Maybe we can head back to Phalanx after we eat and you can play it for me. ”I don’t know-- it’s not quite ready for a public audience,” he joked, kissing her cheek. ”For you-- of course.” He loved that she liked his music, because he became so immersed in it. It was pretty much the only thing he did that he hadn’t figured out a way to sign at the same time, so for him to do something without that extra communication was a gesture of complete comfort for the person he was playing for.
As they took their seats, he opened a menu, pointing. ”See-- this is what I heard about yesterday and it sounded pretty good.”

[googlefont="Playfair Display"][googlefont="Alice"] We wrote a story in the fog on the windows that night.
She blushed when Casey complimented her. He was always so sweet and she truly loved him. He was so good to her, and she knew that he was someone who would always be there for her. They were good together and she had to remember that. She had to remember that he was amazing for her and that she couldn’t keep thinking about Aden. That she couldn’t be curling up next to him while they watched Netflix, she couldn’t play with his hair, she couldn’t hold her breath hoping for him to hold her hand. She had a hand to hold. She already had someone’s hair to play with. She had Casey and that was all she needed. They would figure out passion one day, and even if they didn’t have it right now.
When he seemed to be surprised by her offer to fly them to Paris and she had to admit that it made her giggle a little, “It’s nothing, I promise.” She would get away from her parents for a few days, might even be able to search out her grandparents, and her parents would be able to pretend that she didn’t exist anymore. She was sure that her brother would have some comments about her going to a foreign country with her boyfriend, but she was sure that they would figure it all out. “Assuming Curtis would give his best employee a week or so off.”
She walked with him to the restaurant and grinned when he kissed her cheek, sealing the promise that he would play some of his music for her. Hopefully going back to Phalanx with him, listening to his music, and spending time alone would help things finally click into place. She sat down at a table and scooted her chair in closer to the table. They were good together and she had to remember that. They would be able to work it out and she would be happy. “I can’t wait.” She loved music and being able to hear him sing and play his guitar was amazing. He was so animated and lively normally, when he played his music, he was serious and deep. It was amazing to watch.
“This looks amazing.” She looked over the menu and brushed some of her hair behind her ear. She looked over the menu and tried to find something that sounded appealing. “So how are things at Phalanx?”

It's nothing, I promise. He scoffed. "It's not nothing," he corrected, shaking his head. "Thank you." He did appreciate it-- and he'd never take advantage of her money. Assuming Curtis would give his best employee a week or so off. He grinned, nodding. "I don't think it'll be a problem. I just have to give him a couple week's notice, but I never take off." He had the vacation time, and was in his boss's good graces. He didn't have much to worry about there. That was one perk he got for working his ass off.
I can't wait. He grinned. "I won’t forget you when I’m famous and they play me on the local radio stations,” he joked. Not like that would ever happen-- he didn't have the attention span to finish anything he started. "What do you have planned for this week-- any big projects?" he asked curiously, genuinely wanting to know what was going on with her life.
This looks amazing. He grinned. "I hope it is-- I can't start slacking." She deserved nothing less than amazing. An amazing restaurant-- for an amazing girl. So how are things at Phalanx? "They're okay," he said, rubbing the back of his neck. "I don't know what's going on with me, actually," he admitted, kind of not having had a good way to bring it up before. "I've been changing," he said after looking around quickly and keeping his voice down. "Like... more often... without meaning to." He just felt really distracted lately... he probably wasn't getting enough sleep. "I'm sure it's no big deal. It's just weird."

[googlefont="Playfair Display"][googlefont="Alice"] We wrote a story in the fog on the windows that night.
She could speak a little French, and he could speak with his hands. If she had to pick which one of the two was more impressive, Casey would win every time. She held his hand and walked along the street with him, picturing what it would be like to walk along Paris with him. She could see them getting crepes from a street vendor outside of the Louvre, listening to a musician by Notre Dame, and then maybe even feeling that spark for him while looking at the city from the top of the Eiffel Tower. She knew that they would make it work eventually and they would find a way to figure out this relationship because it was honestly the only healthy one she had ever been in.
“And I can say that I knew the amazing star when. That he broke my heart and left the little Southern girl to pursue his big dreams.” She fanned her eyelashes and smiled at him, knowing that she would probably be the one to break his heart. She didn’t do relationships well. She was a hurricane and Casey just happened to catch her in the eye of the storm. She would do something soon to wreck it all, that much she knew for sure. “No big projects, Delilah and Aden’s birthday is coming up, so heading back up to their place for it. A teleporter from Primrose is going to run people up to the party, you wanna come?”
She reached across the table and held his hand, knowing how scary it could be when an ability went haywire. She worried for him, clearly. There was a lot that could be said to cover up if her skill went crazy. There was a changing light, or that they just saw something weird. If Casey accidentally turned into a blonde woman with cheekbones sharp enough to kill a man, then it would be harder to explain. “Have you talked to the people at Phalanx about it?” She asked, hoping that he did. They would know what was going on with him and would hopefully be able to figure out a way to help him reign in what his body wanted to do.
