Generally this takes a great deal of concentration, and some weather conditions are easier than others. Her powers are often influenced by her emotions. Her easiest condition to conjure up are rain storms – they deal with strong emotions (be it happy or upset). She’s had the most practice at whipping up a storm for a good wave or two on the ocean. On the flipside, whenever she gets exceedingly angry or upset, this can become a full on stay-in-your-home-possible-tornado thunderstorms. At this point in her life, she can’t keep a condition down for more than 15 to 20 minutes tops. Lani is constantly trying to push that number to the limit, despite how much it physically and mentally exhausts her. Since moving to Louisiana, Lani has been focusing a lot on temperature conditions (mainly to make this blasted state bearable). Whenever a natural storm cooks up, she’s tried her hand at making it sunny again, but as she hasn’t had much practice with this, it’s still pretty hit or miss. Lani tends to dress in a surfer/skater girl chic type of fashion, and rarely splurges on expensive clothes. Living on the island most of her life molded her to be that way - mellow and calm. There's not a lot that can get her really riled up. Lani is cool and collected - a great thing considering the damage her powers could do if she were easily angered. She isn't exceptionally outspoken, but she isn't shy to talk either. When approached for conversation or something of the sort, she's generally all smiles and assurance. She's confident in herself without being cocky. the history father ♦ Capt. The moment he laid eyes on the beautiful Kanoelani, he knew he was done for. Their courtship was short, with James being in the military and whatnot. They married only after six months of dating. A year later, they had their first child - a beautiful baby boy. Their relationship was hard, with James being gone often, but he loved Kano intensely. After the birth of their second child a year later, James thought nothing could be any greater for their relationship. He decided to move career fields, to have something to keep him on the island more often so he could be with his family. Kaleolani was that second child. Ever since she was born, the girl had been infatuated with the beach and sea. Most days Kanoelani would take both of her children down to the beach. Kano would catch a few waves, play with her children in the ocean, teach them what she could. Life was pretty great. After the birth and subsequent power manifestation of her brother’s, James and Kano weren’t too shocked when little Lani started showing signs of powers as well. They first started suspecting something in Lani when she was six. Every now and again whenever she got a little too excited or playful with her brother, little sparks would shoot out of her hands. Nothing bad ever happened, and the first time or two Kano and James wrote it off to freak static shock. Then it happened more often. At age ten, and her brother eleven, he pointed out how it always happened to be raining when she cried. The final straw was one day when the beach was uncharacteristically calm, and twelve-year-old Lani was so upset because she wanted to surf, that as she stormed off, a literal storm cooked up in the ocean, creating massive waves. As soon as Lani realized she could surf and was all happy again, the storm disappeared. Kano attributes her children's’ powers as a gift from the island – some superstitious crap that James paid no attention to. It was then when he started investigating potential schools and places for them to move to. When Lani was fifteen she got the news that her father had to leave the island, and she had to go with him. Kano was tired of the strain the military had put on the relationship between herself and James. When he finally got orders to move to Louisiana, she had enough. She loved her island too much to leave. The two divorced, and the kids had to go live with James in Louisiana. Apparently there was a home for people 'special' like the likes of Lani and her brother. Lani has been at the Phalanx home for two years now. She's fond of the Louisiana bayou culture, but she misses the island life more than anything. Every now and again she'll drive to the beach and whip up a gnarly storm just so she can get a taste of a great surf, but nothing beats the beaches of O'ahu.
