charlotte voclain-mercier the basics full name ♦ Charlotte Eloise Voclain-Mercier nicknames ♦ Charlie, Char age ♦ Nineteen birthday ♦ July 7, 1997 occupation ♦ Student/Patient at Monroeville Asylum ability/power ♦ Electrokinesis how the ability works ♦ Charlie has the ability to absorb, generate and project volumes of electrical energy of an extremely high voltage. This often comes out as cracks of what appear to be lightning as well as the occasional blast. While Charlie has some small amount of control over her abilities, it is the times when she doesn’t that she can be extremely harmful to other people, oftentimes to their death. Due to the fact that she doesn’t have as much control as she should, when she tries to do something her abilities are often hindered in regards to distance, accuracy, and strength. Her powers cannot pass through any form of rubber or silicate, or any other material that happens to be electrically resistant. If she goes too long unchecked, she will need to ‘recharge’ her abilities, which often involves taking a power source from something else and, on many occasions, Charlie has difficulty using electronics without them short-circuiting. In a similar way, if she becomes wet while using her abilities, it can seemingly ‘short-circuit’ her and place her into a state of unconsciousness for varying amounts of time. species ♦ Human gender ♦ she/her sexuality ♦ Pansexual / Currently uninterested the appearance face claim ♦ Cara Delevingne height and weight ♦ 5’8 and 112lbs identifying features ♦ Various tattoos and a couple of scars. overall appearance ♦ Charlie stands at an above average height of 5'8 and weighs in around one hundred and twelve pounds. She's quite slender, with lanky arms and legs. You'll rarely find her standing anything less than her full height and exuding confidence on a tremendous scale. Her body has tattoos and scars scattered upon it, scars that she often hides in an attempt to forget about the abuse she suffered at the hands of her father. Charlie has no preference on the types of clothes she wears, as long as she's comfortable in them. More often than not, these tend to be baggy clothes that hide her form. the personality likes ♦ ~ Music ~ Wandering around ~ Running ~ Grape soda dislikes ♦ ~ Being out of control ~ Asparagus ~ Being locked up ~ Laziness ~ Disorder strengths ♦ ~ Lying/Manipulation ~ Creative weaknesses ♦ ~ Forgiveness ~ Unpredictable dreams ♦ To have control over her abilities and get out of Monroeville. fears ♦ Hurting the people in her life (again) overall personality ♦ Charlotte is a spunky young adult who doesn’t seem to have enough hours in her day. Despite being born on the streets, she tends to have a strong work ethic and is often up late at night in order to attempt to get better control of the abilities that control her life. She is someone that hauls her own weight and oftentimes the weight of those around her, There are times when Charlie forgets to take care of herself and this can often cause all of the energy in her body to be redirected in another way, oftentimes causing injury to someone around her. If it doesn't redirect the energy, it completely drains her and makes her unable to do anything. In saying that, she is also run by her emotions, which means that they can directly impact her abilities as well as her day to day life. While Charlie tries to be optimistic, and generally does a fairly good job of it, she also knows that things can’t go well all the time and that she has to be realistic. There is a naivety about her that has her almost always seeing the best in people and wanting to believe them for what they say. However, she isn’t so naive as to continue believing the same harmful people once they’ve betrayed her trust. the history father ♦ Pierre Voclain-Mercier, would be 41, unknown (deceased) mother ♦ Marianne Voclain-Mercier, 40, unknown siblings ♦ n/a important people ♦ Doctor Elliot Nichols hometown ♦ New York City, New York overall history ♦ Charlotte was born nineteen years ago in New York City to Marianne and Pierre Voclain-Mercier. Growing up was nothing spectacular as the family lived in a small two bedroom apartment with just enough space for them to move around comfortably and not be directly on top of one another. Things were far from perfect for this small family, with Marianne and Pierre fighting more often than they didn't. Eventually, that fighting began to have a serious impact on young Charlotte. She wasn't being properly cared for and the weight soon began to melt off of her. Not only that, but bruises began to form on her from the times her father would hit her just a little too hard. However, her parents were excellent at hiding these marks from everyone, including young Charlotte’s teachers. However, as she began to look far too sickly for a child her age, the neighbors grew concerned and made the phone call to Child Protective Services. The following day they began an investigation that only lasted a week before the decision was made that the home condition was not only unsatisfactory, but unsafe. Charlie, almost twelve, was finally removed from her home. Because she had no family anywhere nearby, or at least none that claimed her, it was decided that she would be placed into the foster care system. This was an entirely new environment for the child and while she was glad to be out of the home that had left her feeling so broken, she didn't want to be here either. CPS managed to place her with a family that actually seemed fairly decent, but that didn't mean that Charlotte liked being around them. They were almost too pleasant. It was all an elaborate ruse, though. The foster family she had been placed with, the Camerons, were simply in this business for the money that they got from it. They didn't really care. The first time the now fifteen year old Charlotte was hit harder than what was actually acceptable, she began to formulate a plan. It didn't take her long to use the resources around her to steal some money and pack a bag before she was gone. Charlotte snuck out of a window in the middle of the night and ran, not bothering to look back. Though she was only fifteen years old, she was intelligent and resourceful. When she had been taken away from her birth parents, the doctors said that she was dangerously unhealthy and that the situation she had been in could have killed her. Charlotte wasn’t sure if she believed that, but she found her way back to the home that she had been brought up in, only to find that her parents had separated and now only her father lived there. Pierre was surprised to see her, but welcomed her into his home. Things were okay for a little while, but Charlie quickly noticed some familiar patterns that had only seemed like nightmares before. It was one particular evening when Pierre got extremely intoxicated with a woman that he had brought home that he lashed out. He hit Charlotte hard enough that she stumbled backwards and fell to the floor. In a cross between being terrified and being furious, a sudden crackling began to surround the teenager and a burst of electricity engulfed in a bright light was sent shooting at her father. She watched, horrified as his body convulsed violently before he fell to the floor, dead. The woman that he had been with screamed and attempted to run, but when Charlie reached out to plead with her not to go, another crackle of electricity surged from her fingertips and hit the woman. Much like her father, the woman fell to the floor. However, she didn’t die. She was seriously injured and lucky to be alive, according to the doctors that later treated them. It had been a consideration to discuss having Charlotte charged with the murder of her father, but specialists realized that she had been unable to control what she did and that made her a danger not only to others, but to herself as well. It was decided that while she wouldn’t be tried for his murder, as well as the injury on his female companion, she would need to be placed somewhere that this type of thing couldn’t happen again. The specialists recommended that she be sent to Monroeville Asylum, where they would be able to give her the care and training that she needed. They sent her on a bus down to Louisiana with a few guards to ensure that she arrived there safely and without harming anyone. Charlie herself was terrified at the idea of what she had done and what she was going to be forced to face in the coming days. What she hadn’t expected was that she would be in Monroeville for years to come. Over the course of the next few years, Charlie learned more how to control her emotions than the ability that she was born with, which she learned was called electrokinesis. Doctor Elliot Nichols was assigned to her case and has been with her every step of the way, which has resulted in Charlie only trusting him in regards to things concerning her care or well-being. While Charlie often doesn’t mean to hurt people, there are those that she would certainly like to zap, but she managed to resist. It’s safe to say that she has certainly made progress, but Charlie has also had a few setbacks where she electrocuted a couple of doctors as well as other people at Monroeville. Most people that come around her know the importance of wearing some kind of rubber in order to offer added protection to themselves. It’s Charlie’s hope that she’ll be able to get out of this place soon, because she’s tired of people looking at her with wariness in their eyes. the role player alias ♦ Sammi age ♦ 23 pronouns ♦ she/her code ♦ Admin Edit other characters ♦ @killian |
