if it's Dreamswere chasing It was quiet at the Phalanx Home ever since the summer rolled in. A lot of students went back home to their parents, on vacation, or where ever else they might go during their time off. It was strange to see the deserted halls, and the general lack of noise. Kaleolani and her brother @kai were usually among the students to go home for the summer as well, but this year their father, Captain Larson, was off in some super top secret squirrel location in the middle of the damned ocean the entire time. Their mother, Kano was also busy, but at least it was easy to visit her with Kai's powers. They could pop over to mom's for a quick surf, and still be back in time for dinner. Among the only remaining people here, were many of the teachers at Phalanx. Lani wasn't sure if it was because they had to stay (seeing as they were pretty much the only faculty that held the place together) or if they were like the students. With no where to go. One of those certain teachers that were staying at Phalanx crossed Lani's mind. Pippa Blackwood. She teaches English at Phalanx, and in Lani's opinion, is super foxy. The thought of Pippa and her shy smile and adorable accent brought a grin to Lani's face. Suddenly, the sun peaked from behind the dark, menacing clouds above her. She was supposed to be working with her powers, but it was easy to get distracted when Pippa was on the mind. Although, she is a good thought whenever Lani wants to bring out the sun, apparently... Lani channeled her thoughts and feelings and played with the weather a bit more, pushing out the clouds and allowing the sun to reign free, even if only for a short time. Satisfied with her performance, Lani decided she deserved a break and made her way to the kitchen for lunch. Perhaps, if she was lucky, she could scrounge up the supplies to make a sandwich or two. Perhaps, if she was really lucky, she would run into the lovely Pippa along the way... you've got the worldat your feet MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

[googlefont="Playfair Display"][googlefont="Alice"] just a kiss on your lips in the moonlight
Pippa stretched her legs out in front of her and looked out the window at the bright sunshine. She had been in New Orleans since she was fourteen, but she still looked at the place through new eyes. It was so different than Scotland, but she would never want to go back to the United Kingdom. Her siblings were safe from their father with his changing face, and she wanted to make sure it stayed that one. It was one of the downsides of being a skinwalker. She could never know if her father was lurking around to get her back for draining his bank accounts to get them into the United States. She tucked some of her auburn hair behind her ear and looked down at the grounds, spotting some of her students lounging in the sunshine. She was more of the sit in a window seat and read type of lady, and her pale as a ghost complexion showed that.
She stood up and closed her book with a bookmark. She set the book on her window seat and dropped her robe to get dressed in something proper before going to find food. She dressed in a simple striped shirt and slipped on her favorite yellow flats for a pop of color. The home was mostly quiet, the students with families to go home to would take the summer to spend time with them. The ones who had nowhere else to go hung around and got extra tutoring help. She enjoyed a full house as much as the next professor, but she enjoyed the peace and quiet every once in awhile.
She made her way down the steps and walked into the kitchen, spotting Kaleolani by the counter. She stopped walking and tried to get her heart to stop pounding in her chest. She wanted to get her pulse to calm down and her palms to stop sweating. She knew that Kaleolani was too young for her. She was ten years older than the girl, with several higher degrees, and a caretaker role over her. She couldn’t be part of this, and she knew it. There was a pull towards the other girl that she had been trying to deny for all of the above reasons, but she still felt the need to be around her. Lani made her smile, brought sunshine to her cloudy days. It was appropriate given the girl’s abilities, but that didn’t change anything.
“Miss Larson, not going home for the summer?” She asked, moving to the cabinet to get a pan to make some lunch in. The less eye contact she made with the beautiful woman the better she would be able to get out of this with her sanity intact. “Or do you and your brother just plan on popping back and forth?”

if it's Dreamswere chasing As Lani was rummaging through the fridge (in which she found salmon, yum, looks like this is getting eaten) she heard footsteps coming up to the kitchen behind her. Lani peered over her shoulder to see none other than the foxy professor herself, Pippa. A grin spread to Lani's face. "My, my, it is my lucky day after all." Lani spoke to herself, but loud enough so that the other woman could hear it. The Hawai'ian girl wasn't sure if there really was anything between herself and the beautiful Scottish professor, but it was always fun to make her blush. Lani assumed she just hadn't been hit on by other girls a lot in her life. Such a shame. Pippa was a gorgeous woman, and she deserved to be told so every day. Lani just took it upon herself to do that in the most tormenting way. "Oh, you know, dad's off in the middle of the ocean somewhere, mom is across the sea. Might as well just stay here and soak up the view." She gave a knowing grin and Pippa a once-over. "How about yourself, Dr. Blackwood? I'm sure someone as lovely and prestigious as you must have a home that isn't this quaint, old place." Lani spoke as she walked dangerously close to Pippa and took the pan from her hands. "Thanks. I needed that." Lani winked, and made her way to the stove. "How about a lovely lunch of seared salmon, Dr. Blackwood?" The way Lani was saying her name now made it seem like it was almost a joke. Like they were close friends, goofing around. "I make the best Hawai'ian food in all of Louisiana." The girl was trying to reel Pippa in, maybe actually have a real conversation with the woman that wasn't just in the classroom. Learn about her. Her likes, dislikes, was she into girls? That sort of thing. you've got the worldat your feet MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

[googlefont="Playfair Display"][googlefont="Alice"] just a kiss on your lips in the moonlight
She knew that she could keep her desire for the other woman in check. She had been doing it for months. She could clearly remember the first time that Kaleolani caught her eye in the most sinful way. She brought her class outside for their lesson. It was March and she was sitting on a rock to discuss Macbeth. Kaleolani was reading the monologue for Ophelia, and the way that the sun hit her golden hair, the way her voice carried the pain of the character, the way she just radiated passion, it sent shivers up her spine and changed how she looked at the younger woman. Changed the way she looked at women in general.
What made it even more unbearable, was that she couldn’t tell if the feelings were reciprocated or if Lani was just a painful flirt. She heard the younger woman’s comment about it being her lucky day. She couldn’t help but blush when the woman looked her up and down like she was trying to decide what part of Pippa she wanted to explore first. There was a dark part of Pippa that reminded her that she wanted the seventeen year old to ravage her. To roam over her with those sensual lips and long fingers. She shook the thoughts from her head and smiled at Kaleolani instead of giving into her base instincts to grip her hips and explore all of the fantasies that she tried to push from her head on a nightly basis.
“I happen to like this place.” It was close to her family, and she was able to be around her students. She thought about getting something for them, but she couldn’t bring herself to leave the place that gave her and her family a second chance at their lives. Where they got citizenship, where she got her degrees. She felt her breath hitch in her throat when Kaleolani stepped close to her. Their bodies came together like the universe pulling together two magnets. She wanted to just grab the younger woman and close that distance. She wanted to tangle her fingers into Lani’s hair and explore her sun kissed skin for days, drinking in the other woman instead of leaving the bedroom, but she couldn’t. It pained her, it nearly killed her, but she couldn’t. When Kaleolani took the pan from her hands, she barely noticed anything more than the spark of need when their hands touched.
“It’s summer, you can call me Pippa.” She commented and took a seat at the center island in the kitchen. She wanted to put a whole table between them, even if some thoughts about what they could do with it came to mind. “That sounds nice.” She folded her hands, then realized it was too formal, then just rested her forearms on the counter top, “Do you enjoy cooking?” Pleasant conversation between two people with no sexual undertones. She could do this.

if it's Dreamswere chasing
"Pippa." The woman's name easily rolled off of Lani's tongue. She liked the way it felt. How it sounded. The taste of her name on Lani's tongue brought a small, genuine smile to her face. "Alright, Pippa. Lunch it is." Lani took her time prepping the kitchen for cooking, hoping to elongate the experience of chatting with Pippa as long as she could. Lani took to seasoning the salmon as she began the small talk. "Cooking's alright. Not my favorite pastime, but it's useful to be able to feed myself with something other than microwaveable pizzas." Something her brother was entirely too accustomed to. He was gonna get fat one day if all he continued to do was play video games and eat frozen meals. "My mom was a great cook though. I picked up most of what I know from her.. Do you cook?" Surprisingly, Lani was able to turn off her overwhelmingly flirtatious manner to have a normal conversation with the woman. This would be one for the records. Soon the smell of cooked salmon began drifting through the kitchen, and Kaleolani didn't quite realize how hungry she was until her mouth started salivating. Maybe this lunch would be shorter than expected. "How did you get reeled into teaching here anyway? Don't you have a doctorate or something? I'm sure the college would pay you more than this place. If they pay you at all." Lani snorted. She knew for a fact there were at least a handful of people that worked here, not for money, but just a roof over their head. And it wasn't like Lani wasn't grateful Pippa taught at Phalanx, by all means did she love going to English, but Lani just thought it peculiar that someone with such over-qualifications would end up in a place like a group home. Lani wanted to know what made her tick. And if Pippa wanted to open up, she would be all ears. you've got the worldat your feet MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

[googlefont="Playfair Display"][googlefont="Alice"] just a kiss on your lips in the moonlight
Pippa knew that it was wrong, but there was a shiver down her spine when her name rolled so perfectly off Lani’s plump lips. The way that her tongue wrapped around those two syllables nearly had her knees buckling. She couldn’t even imagine the self-control that she was going to need if she was going to be around this woman for all of the summer. To hear her name from those lips, to hear Lani plead for her to keep going. She knew that the fantasies she had about the other woman were going to drive her mad one day, and that there would be Lani just flirting with someone else not even understanding the impact that she had on the Scot.
Pippa slid onto the counter so she would be able to watch Lani move around the kitchen. She needed to hear something from the girl about only being interested in men or that she was spoken for. Anything that would make her less perfect in Pippa’s eyes. The way she moved so gracefully around the kitchen, it was making things even harder on Pip.
She watched her move and prepare the salmon in the pan. The kitchen filled with amazing smells, and Pippa could feel her mouth water and her stomach demand the food. She listened to what Lani said about how her mom was a good cook, and couldn’t help but wonder if they had both lost their mothers. “What do you like to do for fun?” She asked with a little more husk in her voice than she intended, but she was already starting to think of all of the things she could do with the younger woman for fun. She wanted to stop thinking about Lani that way. She wanted to move on from her and she wanted to just not think about the other woman like that.
“Enough that I kept my family alive.” She remembered all of the times when she was younger and she would have to make a meal for them with whatever was in the cabinets while their father was passed out in the middle of the kitchen. “You mom was? She pass away?” She asked, curious about the other woman’s life and what it had been like before Phalanx.
Pippa tucked some of her hair behind her ear and nodded when Lani asked if she had her doctorate. “I do have my doctorate, in Elizabethan literature.” She knew that most people would want to teach at some college, or even just lecture daily to pay their bills, but she loved Phalanx too much. She loved helping people figure out their abilities and give them a safe space that she was given as a teenager.
“I came here when I was young, it gave me and my family a safe space, I just want to give that to others.” She shrugged, knowing that she was happy where she was. She just wanted to be able to watch over her sisters while they completed their education and wanted to make sure that her brother kept out of trouble.
“Kinda weird, right?”

if it's Dreamswere chasing Being so close to Pippa, and actually having a conversation with her gave Lani goosebumps as she worked. She really needed to find a way to keep her hormones in check, or she'd get into some real trouble. Staff/student relations were super frowned upon, even if Pippa was interested in Lani. Keeping up with the conversation while she cooked, Lani didn't miss a beat when Pippa asked her about what she does for fun. "I'm a surfer. Or was, rather. It's kind of hard to keep up with in this silly state." She explained. "The ocean in Hawai'i was beautiful. I spent most of my days swimming, or diving, or surfing... Pretty much anything in the water. My brother calls me a fish." Lani grinned over her shoulder to Pippa. "What about you, Pip? You do anything for fun, or just read stuffy books all day?" She teased. "Nah, she left my dad some years ago. I think he's still upset about it - he doesn't like us visiting her. Though with Kai's powers getting stronger and more controllable, we try to visit her as often as we can." Lani tried not to let the little twinge in her heart affect her as she spoke. No matter how much she tries to ignore it, Lani missed the way things used to be dearly. Her parents happy and together, her dad not gone all the time, coming home to a grinning goof of a mother. The memories were bittersweet. "Not stuff I like to dwell on! Just like to live in the moment, got that Aloha spirit, y'know." She beamed. Though she wasn't facing Pippa as she spoke, Lani was still listening intently to her story. A small smile dawned her face, as Pippa explained her good intentions. "I don't think it's weird at all... I think it's sweet." Silence filled the room for a moment as Lani thought of what to say next. She never really knew how bad she was at conversation until this moment. She grabbed plates for the two and finished cooking their meal. Lani scooped the fish on to the two separate plates, and placed one across the counter, in front of Pippa. "Hope you like it, dear." The words slipped out of her mouth before she had a chance to swallow them. Dear? Where did she come up with that? Maybe she was lucky again, and Pippa didn't hear that. Would that be crossing a boundary? She didn't want to chase off Pippa just yet. The woman was just warming up to her! If Lani could cut out her tongue, now would be the moment she would. you've got the worldat your feet MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

[googlefont="Playfair Display"][googlefont="Alice"] just a kiss on your lips in the moonlight
Pippa smiled when Lani moved around the kitchen. She could remember stealing cans of food from stores and heating them up for dinner for her family. When she accidentally cut herself on one of the cans and had to wrap every piece of clothing around her hand to clot the blood. She felt dizzy from the blood loss and when her father finally stumbled home and she asked to go to the hospital, he beat her for ruining one of his shirts with blood. She could remember shoving the bloody rag into her own mouth while he kicked her in the stomach so she wouldn’t scream out. She didn’t want to wake her brother or the twins.
Her whole life had been dedicated to helping everyone else. To raising her siblings and making sure that they were alright, she never took the time for herself. There had been guys she saw casually while she was in college. Even one who she slept with, but it never felt right. “With your brother’s ability, I’m surprised you’re not there all the time.” Kai was on his way to becoming a very strong teleporter, but spent more time playing his video games and yelling creative swears at the screen than he did on practicing his distance and accuracy. “I happen to like my stuffy books, thank you very much.” She looked down at the tiles and smiled a little, thinking about one of the passages that always reminded her of Lani, even though she would never admit the connection. “It was many and many a year ago, in a kingdom by the sea, that a maiden there lived whom you may know, by the name of Annabel Lee; and this maiden she lived with no other thought than to love and be loved by me.”
Pippa felt bad for assuming that her mother was dead as well. Kaleolani had such a bright spirit, it was infectious. Even with Pippa thinking about her mother, being around Lani made her think more about the good times she had with her mother than the horrible memories. “Aloha spirit, sounds relaxing.”
Pippa blushed a little when Lani thought that it was sweet she was working at Phalanx rather than working at some university. She thought about working somewhere that would pay her more once her sisters were out of the school, but there was such a bond with the house. It was the first place that she went where she truly felt safe and protected. The one place that gave her siblings a home and somewhere they were loved.
“I think about going back to Scotland sometimes, but there’s nothing left for us. Only my mum’s grave.”
Pippa slid off the counter and grabbed two glasses from the cabinet while Lani portioned the fish onto two plates. She poured two glasses of the never ending supply of sweet tea that was in the refrigerator. She filled two of the glasses with the cold tea and carried them back to the table. She heard the dear from Lani’s lips and a wave of comfort came over her. Of coming home to Lani after teaching at a university, holding the younger woman close to her and smelling sea salt and sunshine on her hair. At preparing meals together and stealing kisses while moving around the kitchen. She felt her cheeks turn bright red over the rest of the images flooding her brain and she wanted to just shut it all off.
“Thank you Kaleolani.” She took the plate and hoped that the younger woman wouldn’t notice her beet red cheeks. “This-this uh smells amazing.”
