He loves people, make up, dancing, and ice cream. No really everyone is a friend to Tae until proven otherwise. So he is very often smiles and handshakes. He is super affectionate, rarely having a concept of personal space when it comes to people. He blames the fact that it's because of his job and he is just used to being in bubbles when it comes to doing make up. So he loves friends, TJ is very much a collector of friends. He does truly care about every single one even if it seems that he keeps people around for show. Tae gathers people because he wants make up for the family who didn't actually care for him. More often than not he can seem needy, or clingy. Almost always he will have someone with him not being able to deal with being alone for too long. Along with being generally the life of the party Tae is also pretty shameless. He flirts at most anyone he finds attractive figuring there is no harm in trying. Most of the time he is let down, nicely, but still denied. TJ is easy to get back up and try again. He is more about short things though rather than getting serious, because he is worried about people rejecting him. Though TaeJoon seems like he is perfectly happy go lucky and friendly to all it's not quite true. He does have a temper but he is passive aggressive about it. Using words to bite for him rather than fighting with fists. He is snippy and back handed when he is mean. Unless someone attacks his lifestyle. Then he holds nothing back. the history father ♦ MinChul Seo, 57, doctor mother ♦ Bora Seo, 57, Lawyer siblings ♦SuMin, 31, KiBam, 34 important people ♦ Sophia Lawrence hometown ♦ Seoul South Korea, grew up in San Diego Cali overall history ♦Life always seemed laid out. Third kid meant he was the baby, also because there was five years between him and Min, and eight between him and Ki. His brother was always so serious. His sister acted like she knew it all, and his parents were busy. Just always busy. Their words were direct, short and sure. Tae could always see where his siblings got it from. The stand proud and stern way, but he felt like the black sheep from the start. TaeJoon was good at falling behind when the family went out. Normally he had to hold a hand and get dragged through crowds. He would get distracted and wanted to see everything, say hi to everyone and just explore. But there was always somewhere to go and not enough time to be spent on just chasing him around. Often his mother would have to kneel down and with her stern words tell him that he needed to stop and just fallow. "What would happen if we lost you?" That was an irrational fear for the little boy for a while so he always huddled closely to members of his family. Especially when they moved to a new country when he was five. His father getting a deal to be a primary surgeon at a hospital in the US. His older brother and sister often telling him to back up, or that he was crowding him. But that wasn't new. SuMin and KiBan hardly had the patients for their little brother. Or that is how it felt anyway. He wanted to play but ended up braking things or ruining this and then he would be told to get out of their room. A young TJ found his solace in the old tree house in their back yard, something left over from the family before. It was where he was happy, taking a flashlight and blanket out and basket of coloring books and toys. Starting school he found himself more and more in that tree house. It was like an instant shadow of his siblings were cast over him. They had been A+ students, prefect little angels really, quick to learn their English when he struggled with the new sounds. That was how it always was. His siblings were everything that his parents could ever want and then there was Tae. Obviously his parents loved him but he wanted to be impressive too and all he was good at was childish things, like pranks, games and making dinosaur shapes out of legos. Art was easy for Tae. He liked coloring, letting his mind run wild and play with colors. But everything else he was awful at. TJ had a hard time focusing. He was a slow learner, reading was frustrating. And generally he was just failing at everything that went along with school. He was scared to bring back test grades to his parents. The last thing he wanted to be was the failure. Because he knew that he was supposed to get into law or medicine like his parents. That was just what his family did. His siblings were already well on their way with top marks. So he went through a lot of school avoiding bring any report cards home, intercepting calls because his parents worked late. It worked for a while. But one day his mother was home early, and the fateful call came revealing all of his school struggles. At first he got yelled at for just being lazy, not taking school seriously enough. "Look at your bother and sister they work hard..." all of it. That night he cried, staying in the tree house and refusing to go in, not for dinner not when his mother called over and over for him to come into the house. That wasn't ever a good thing. Rather than really listening to their son they were convinced that he was just playing dumb. In reality Tae legitimately had a hard time in school focusing and reading. It made him dizzy and his head hurt. It wasn't that he was dumb. He wasn't. All TaeJoon wanted was to make people happy. Color. And then not have to read this same damn paragraph ten times to finally get it. His parents were scared he was mentally stunted. His mother started to blame his father. TJ sat back and watched everything crumble around him. His sister started to study harder to make up for the panic that was starting to take over their mother. Ki on the other hand turned to TJ. At first he accused his younger brother like everyone else had. Asking why he was paying dumb. That he needed to stop and all that. Tae ended up in tears. Saying that he was stupid and couldn't be good enough and he would never be great like KiBan or SuMin. TaeJoon was scared that his parents would just toss him aside, give him up for not being a perfect little boy. This wasn't the case. Even if it felt like his parents gave up on him. It wasn't all at once. TJ at first was put into a lot of tutoring. All of that he hated. He didn't understand why he had to deal with that, be good at math, even reading. What good could reading To Kill a Mocking Bird do for him? It made him aggressive. He got easily frustrated, being told 'it's okay, you can do this' and just coming home to see his parents equally frustrated with his slow progress. Eventually he stopped caring. He wasn't stupid, but if his parents wanted to only see the D's on his reports, and needs improvement in the teachers comments rather than what he was good at then fine. Tae knew he worth more than that, just because school was hard for him didn't mean life had to be. TaeJoon took to just being brief at his home. It wasn't like his parents were there often anyway with work. By the time he was in high school his brother and sister were out of the house. And it was lonely. So TJ had less of a reason to be there. It had been a struggle to get to that point educationally. But he was slowly getting better as far as a personal life went. Joonie was a social butterfly he loved his friends and most of all he loved being able to get attention. Having fun with friends was easy. That and he found something he could be good at. Dancing and theater make up. It was a suggestion from his school's counselor to put him in drama and dance. At first to act, thinking that acting could help him work out the feeling he was clearly suppressing when it came to his parents. Where as the dancing he liked, there were no lines to read, words to memorize. As far as the theater went the make up was a lot of fun, he loved creating characters. Most of all he was actually good at both of those things. Of course with the news his dad said that was hardly a senseable job. And his mother added on that it wasn't at all senseable for a man. Tae was taken back. He thought that they would be proud that he had something, finally, that he could do well and loved doing. But he should have known better that from the day that they knew about his C at best report cards started rolling in they would never be proud. They had their Lawyer daughter and pediatrician son. What was left for Joonie other than to live in their shadows or just be a disappointment? He wouldn't quit what he liked to do. More so he wouldn't keep getting forced into these classes that just made him feel less because numbers and letters didn't like to translate correctly in his head. TaeJoon wasn't dumb. He would prove that he could be successful and happy. There would be one more straw before everything seemed to fall out from under him. And that was junior prom. He brought a boy over as his date. He had been pulled off to the kitchen while his mother and date sat there together awkwardly in the front sitting room. There his dad stone faced asked "what are you doing?" Tae just looked at his dad, brows furrowed and confused. "Going to prom." "With a boy?" "Yes?" "What are you doing with your life TaeJoon...first the dancing and make up and now boys?" "These things, that boy makes me smile." "Stability, a wife, a family, those are important." "Who says I can't..." "TaeJoon. You get that boy out of my house now." His father walked away without another word and he was left there just holding boutonniere that was meant for his date. TJ had a hard time wrapping his head around what had just happened. It wasn't like he had stopped loving girls and wanting their company. But that wasn't the point. Nothing he did seemed to make his parents happy. They had a very specific path for him that he had been veering from all his life whether or not he had meant to. Despite the conversation that had happened in the kitchen TJ stood up straight and put back on a smile. Walking out to the sitting room taking his dates hand without any pictures, not even a word to his mother who just sat with her mug looking at her son knowingly. Very few things were said to his mother and father from that day. He sat at the dinner table and just ate in silence. He didn't fit their mold and he could see how much they hated it. His father would say things to him that were seething, mentions about his plans for the future. How his brother was having his first child and how great KiBan's little family was. Or how beautiful the ring was that his sister's fiance had gotten her. Ask TJ what he thought and then bring up. 'How wonderful would it be to have that for yourself.' He could see how they resented how he was, but wouldn't give up on trying to control him, which was worse than the abandonment that he had feared so much as a child. The day after he graduated Tae left, moved out one weekend without a word and never looked back. He didn't have the grades to go to any sort of top school, but with his portfolio and audition tape he got into the dance program with a theater arts minor at the university of Louisiana. It was perfect, he needed to get away. At first TJ had a hard time being suddenly on his own without his parents money. No matter how much they had resented him they were a proud pair of people who didn't just throw their kid out on his ass. Tae at least could give them that. But his personality flourished now that he wasn't going back to the toxic environment that his home life had been. Truly showing his happiness and colors and his ability to get along with people. TaeJoon of course was proud of all of this, he didn't need book smarts to get along no matter how much that idea had been shoved down his throat. He found himself a job, and gathered friends easily. One in particular, at a club, where they danced together all night. Sophia being something that he really ended up leaning on. A couple months of being friends and they moved in together. She just asked that he promise that he wasn't some mass murder. And Tae, of course crossed his heart. It was easy living with her. They were fast friends and great together. Soph being his family sense he had no one really in Louisiana. Even if it was shocking finding a Lynx in her bead one morning. Tae was about to wake up Sophia with pancakes when he saw the large cat in the bed. TJ dropped the plate, it broke and there was a mess. The shock woke up the Lynx and TaeJoon was sure that he was about to die when suddenly the big cat morphed into a girl his friend. That was when he learned of a world where people could do crazy and amazing things. Stuff that he had only known to happen in movies. It took adjusting but honestly Tae was more fascinated by it all than anything. And it had only mabe him and his friend closer from then on. the role player alias ♦ Alice age ♦ 25 pronouns ♦ gender fluid code ♦ Admin Edit other characters ♦ @parker , @robyn , @wyatt , @emmett , and @theo |
