dylan elise barnes the basics full name ♦ Dylan Elise Barnes nicknames ♦ Dyl, Dyls age ♦ twenty-eight birthday ♦ May 9, 1988 occupation ♦ Antique Collector school ♦ Phalanx ability/power ♦ Skinwalker how the ability works ♦ Dylan is a skinwalker, which means that she can take on the form of other people at will. She is essentially transforming and reshaping the very structure of her DNA. When this ability is being used, Dylan can almost completely become that person, from their very appearance, to their mannerisms, and even their way of speaking. There are also occasions when she’s able to do certain things that they can do - be it backflips or talking in another language. This allows her to go around undetected most of the time and tends to get other people in trouble for doing something that she herself actually did. As glamorous as the ability sounds, there are certainly downsides to it. For the most part Dylan can control the ability, but when she’s extremely stressed or overwhelmed, she can start to take on attributes from the people that are around her. Dylan cannot become someone that she’s never seen before. Excessive time spent in someone else’s body tends to cause her mind to begin taking on more of that person’s thoughts and memories than if she would turn back into herself sooner. This is usually limited to a maximum time of three hours, though there have been rare occasions when she’s able to last longer. The times when she lasts longer, there is a noticeable difference between herself and the person she’s trying to impersonate, which can be very dangerous depending on the situation. species ♦ Skinwalker gender ♦ Female [she/her] sexuality ♦ Heterosexual the appearance face claim ♦ Teresa Palmer height and weight ♦ 5’6 and 130lbs. identifying features ♦ Ears and belly button pierced overall appearance ♦ Dylan stands just above average and comes in at a healthy weight for her stature. While she’s lean, she’s also got a decent amount of muscle on her. Where clothes are concerned, she keeps it simple with jeans and a t-shirt. Dylan likes to accessorize with studded belts and jackets (usually leather), though she enjoys a few pops of blue here and there. While she’s often dressed more like a tomboy, she has been known to get girly, when the occasion calls for it, or when she really has nothing else to wear. the personality likes ♦ ♦ Climbing (rocks, trees, mountains, etc) ♦ Peanut butter ice cream ♦ Antiques ♦ Old coins ♦ Explosions/Fire dislikes ♦ ♦ Musicals ♦ Stupidity ♦ People who are out for revenge ♦ Weak liquor ♦ Running out of coffee strengths ♦ ♦ Intuitive ♦ Trained in combat, both hand-to-hand and firearms. weaknesses ♦ ♦ Stubborn ♦ Distant dreams ♦ Dylan wants to one day have a gallery to display all her 'collected' antiques. fears ♦ Never letting herself open up again to the possibility of love. overall personality ♦ There are a lot of ways one could describe Dylan's personality. She is very much a go-getter, meaning she knows what she wants and she's not afraid to do whatever it takes in order to get it, even if it means having to do something she wouldn't normally be entirely comfortable with. Having been shut out and judged by a lot of people throughout her life due to her skinwalker nature, Dylan has learned how to give people the cold shoulder and keep them out of business that they have no need to be in. She’s not afraid to snap at someone if they push the limits, even if those people happen to be considered her friends. Dylan is someone that has a great intuition about people and things, which often allows her to avoid situations that would otherwise be unpleasant. Dylan really doesn't like getting close to people anymore, physically or mentally. After losing her fiancé she found herself turned off of the idea of relationships all together and hasn’t even had the slightest inclination for a hook-ups. Getting close to people, she feels, is dangerous for both them as well as herself, a risk to lives, actually. She's not opposed to pokes and prods, but the girl hasn't had an actual hug in about ten years, because she knows that if someone hugs her and she returns the hug, she'll break down and that's the last thing she wants. While Dylan doesn't exactly view crying/breaking down as a weakness, she doesn't like showing some of her softer emotions to people, because she doesn't want them to think that she's soft enough to be walked over. the history father ♦ Victor Barnes, 52, Owner of an Investment Firm mother ♦ Alessandra Barnes, 51, Bakery Owner siblings ♦ Timothy Barnes, 25 important people ♦ N/A hometown ♦ Adelaide, Australia overall history ♦ Twenty-eight years ago, Dylan Barnes was born to Alessandra and Victor Barnes, both of whom were fairly renowned bounty hunters in Adelaide, South Australia. They were a fairly middle-class family, having just enough of what they needed and occasionally a little extra to spend on certain outings here and there. For the last nine months, Alessandra had refrained from her extracurricular activities, which included working full time, and instead allowed her husband to take care of things. While Alessandra was on her own personal leave, she decided to take up knitting and sewing so that she could have some nice things set up for their child when it arrived. Given that they had chosen to have the gender remain a mystery, she was always making gender-neutral clothes. It was after those nine months, when the child was finally born, that they learned they had a girl. It wasn’t very hard to pick out a name for her, given that they had wanted something unisex and chose it before she was born. Thus Dylan was thrust into the world. Dylan’s parents wanted her to be able to defend herself in any sort of situation, more so because they didn’t live in the best part of the city. From the time she could walk, Dylan was practicing various fighting techniques, often wrestling with the family dog since it wasn't that much bigger than her, unlike her parents. She was always under constant supervision though, as her parents wanted her to understand that it wasn’t okay to hurt people just for the ‘fun’ of it. It was a tool to be used for self-defense and any misuse of it was something that could result in her entire life changing for the worse. When Dylan turned nine, it was revealed that she had a fairly rare ability, one that was often known to be dangerous and taboo among many cultures. Dylan was a skinwalker, a person with the ability to take on the appearance of others at will. Given that Dylan was just nine and only coming into the ability, it was far from perfect and happened at sporadic intervals, often causing her parents to confuse her for another child. Over the course of the next couple of years, her parents tried to figure out how to deal with this issue without making it known to all of their closest family and friends. When it became clear that they weren’t going to be able to handle this ability by themselves, they began to look into places that would be able to provide help. Phalanx Home was the place that they had found for people who didn’t have a lot of money and, in order to help their daughter, the Barnes family relocated from their native Australia to the United States, settling in New Orleans to allow Dylan to attend Phalanx. While attending Phalanx, Dylan was taken under the wing of a teacher named Victoria, a fellow skinwalker that had chosen to take Dylan under her wing. For the next couple years, Dylan practiced using her ability safely, but when she was sixteen, she made the choice to leave Phalanx after a letter from her parents. They told her that they were returning to Australia and leaving her behind. She was essentially being cut off and disowned because they couldn’t seem to accept this ability that she had, no matter how hard they tried. Dylan disappeared, practically off of the map entirely. While she moved around, she began to realize that she would need a way to survive, which lead her to the art of stealing. It was little things at first, fallen coins and bills, jewelry that was left out, even the occasional set of car keys. A lot of the time she would trade these in at pawn shops or sell them for higher values by herself. As time went on, Dylan got better at taking things and even better at the art of negotiation for selling them. She found herself drawn towards a lot of the older antiques, because that was where there was a lot of value. While she did sell most of what she took, there have been a few things that she’s held onto. When Dylan was twenty-one, she made a return to Phalanx for a brief time, and it was there that she met Henry, a pyro who happened to be a year older than her. Despite their difference in abilities, the duo bonded rather quickly and began a relationship. It was a year later when Henry proposed and Dylan said yes. It was hard for her to keep her past from him, but it was something that she felt she had to do to protect him. A year and a half later, that protection was a completely failure when he was shot on the streets of New Orleans and there seemed to be no witnesses - or at least none that were going to come forward. This sent Dylan into a downwards spiral, closing herself off once more and growing more agitated, more aggressive. Her theft began to increase in frequency, and the things she stole were getting more and more valuable. She’s been fortunate enough to not get caught with her extra curricular activities and hopes that they continue to go that way. For now, Dylan has settled in the French Quarter in a decent sized home with plenty of space for her collection. the role player alias ♦ Sammi, Queen of the Seven Kingdoms age ♦ 23 pronouns ♦ she/her/your majesty/queen of the seven kingdoms/khaleesi code ♦ ADMIN EDIT other characters ♦ @killian @charlie @jett |
