Deacon Abrastus the basics full name ♦Deacon Gregory Abrastus nicknames ♦ N/A age ♦ Thirty-Four birthday ♦ September 12th 1980 occupation ♦ Historian & Teacher at Primrose, focusing on Ancient History. school ♦ Primrose (Teaching) ability/power ♦ Earth Manipulation species ♦ human how the ability works ♦ So far, Deacon needs to be touching what he wants to work with. He can work stone like some people work clay, changing the shape and even surface texture if so inclined. While he is able to cause the ground to shake (within a half mile radius max), it's something that generally only happens when he's pushed beyond his patience and into anger. It's not something he's ever seriously tested out or practiced at, because poking at earthquakes and even tremors is no light matter. He might be all up for testign things, but he's not enough of a dick to endanger other people for his own curiosity. Lately, he's begun trying to coax specific minerals or stones up from the ground in specific shapes or formes. So far he's only had very minimal sucess. The downside to all of this is that as his abilities have grown with age and practice, Deacon's gotten heavier. Swimming in water deeper than he can stand in is just right out. While that increased mass and inertia might be great in a game of tug-o-war, it's had an impact on how fast he can get moving; he's sure as hell not winning a sprint any time soon. gender ♦ Male, he/him/his sexuality ♦ Heterosexual the appearance face claim ♦ Liam McIntyre height and weight ♦ 6'3", 210lbs (thanks for that, ability :l ) identifying features ♦ A tattoo along the underside of his left forearm in Cuneiform. ("All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights.") as well as more cuneiform on the underside of his right forearm. ("To know nothing of what happened before you were born, is to forever remain a child.") overall appearance ♦ His eyes are slate green, edging close to gray. While one would expect that to make his eyes look cold, they're typically warm with amusement. His dark brown hair is generally kept cropped short, rarely getting long enough to even think about getting unruly. Mostly because he just doesn't want to bother spending time on his hair. Ever. Deacon's built solid. Like a wall. Thankfully he's well proportioned so one doesn't usually realize how big he actually is until close up. He's not popping shirt seams by any means, but he's got more muscle than your average Barista Joe. Typically he'll wear whatever is clean, leaning towards casual jeans and tee shirts. He goes for comfort and functionality before style. The exception to that being when he's teaching, in which case he'll mostly dress for the part. He goes barefoot when possible and when it won't draw too much attention, preferring the feel of the ground beneath his feet. the personality likes ♦ dislikes ♦ strengths ♦ |

dreams ♦ To be able to make a solid, reliable living off of his research. Discovering something that lets him leave his mark in history books.
fears ♦ Drowning. Becoming completely irrelevant.
overall personality ♦ Deacon initially comes across as taciturn. It isn’t really too far off, since he’s more inclined towards listening than talking and is much more reserved than outgoing. He’s more focused on research and work than he is on making social connections. That mentality lost him several potential friends as a youth, but it appears that he hasn’t really felt the loss. To his way of thinking, there are things that simply take precedence over making and maintaining friends. That, of course, could simply be something he adapted after finding himself on the receiving end of several comments about his bookish habits during his time in school. What connections he has, formed either through someone’s sheer persistence or his actual need for companionship, are long lasting and deep. Once his loyalty is given it’s something that can be counted on through thick or thin. Contrary wise, if something happens to break that trust, one will likely never find so adamant an adversary.
All of that said, despite his reserved and stoic nature, he's got the curiosity or a fox sometimes and a dogged determination to explore and test until that curiosity is sated. Generally that isn't a problem. But that more than once led him to doing some questionable things in the pursuit of finding the limits of his abilities, leading to several broken bones and impressive bruises. [/div][/div]

father ♦ Marcus Oliver Abrastus, JR, deceased
mother ♦ Olivia Tiana Houck-Abrastus, deceased

important people ♦ Rosamund Maria Wagner, ex-fiance, thirty-two, aspiring painter
Marcus Abrastus, SR, grandfather, deceased
hometown ♦ Boring, Oregon
overall history ♦ Deacon was born to a small family that was already tight on funds. He grew up living with less than many people, but he never actually seemed to notice. There wasn’t really time to, given how much there was to do around the home. Childhood on a small farm was a constant stream of chores; pigs to feed, cattle to tend, eggs to pilfer from ill-tempered hens, sweeping and a seemingly never ending list of things to finish before sundown. He remembers it being a good childhood despite, or possibly because of, all the work. While there was rarely time to lollygag, it was counter balanced by a quiet sense of accomplishment from knowing that he was helping his parents.
While his parents had been living hand-to-mouth, it turned out to have been at least partially a choice on their part. The Marcus Sr and Jr suffered a falling out when the younger Abrastus man decided to marry someone below what the family felt was suitable, severing his family ties and moving out to live off of the land. Marcus Sr's last will was pretty clear in cutting out his son and daughter-in-law, leaving everything he had to his only grandchild.
School and higher education were a wild time for the young man. Between finding ways to deal with the sudden influx of more free time than he knew what to do with, the further development of his own abilities and his constant efforts to explore them while also keeping them secret... he just didn't have time for people. But hey, it payed off. He graduated, picked up some decent work and... then realized that Ancient History and Ancient Languages had a fairly limited range for job opportunities. Even after he achieved a Bachelors in Archaeology, there was only so much work. And while he grew up with simple means, he was kind of fond of not living from paycheck to paycheck.
So it was with some reluctance that he started teaching at Primrose. While it offered him less freedom and flexibility to do what he wants, he can't really argue about the pay. Besides, he likes passing on what he knows to interested parties more than he'd let on.
It was within the first year of teaching that his parents passed away. His mother suffered a fatal heart attack and his father passed away several months after her, likely due to loneliness and heartbreak. It was possibly that loss and the subsequent need for some kind of contact that led to his relationship with Rosamund. It was rushed on his part, which might have been why he didn't notice or chose to ignore some rad-flags in regards to her habits and personality. But all of that ended, despite wedding plans and an announcement being sent out, after he found out she had been faking a pregnancy. After that, he broke off the relationship, moved into his rooms at Primrose on a more (temporarily) permanent basis and buried himself in his work and research again.
