It had been weeks since the Adkins twins’ birthday and she had not seen Aden since that night. She had spent time with Casey, but she knew that she would have to tell him her secret soon. Her conversation with her older brother kept replaying in her head while she unpacked her belongings and sorted them between her dresser and her closet. Noah seemed to be sure that Aden would want to try something with her, to try to be in a relationship and actually care for each other. She felt like her skin had been forever scorched by his hands, that he had marked her as his without leaving a trace on her flesh. She knew that Delilah would be there soon, which meant Aden would be around too. Despite how nervous she was, she was desperate to see him again. If it had been a onetime thing, she could handle that. It was all of this not knowing that was making her sick to her stomach.
Delly finally showed up, dragging her brother in her wake of unpacking of excited chatter about the guy at Monroeville that she had a thing for. Aden sat on his sister’s bed, scrolling through his phone like just being there wasn’t killing Evangeline slowly. Evan did her best to be a good friend and listen, but she kept looking at Aden, kept hoping that something would change between them and he would ask her to leave her boyfriend for him. Leaving Casey was something that she would happily do for Aden if it meant another chance of being with him.
Evan smiled and contributed to the conversation, hoping that Delilah didn’t notice how badly Evan wanted to be with Aden alone in their room. How she wanted to hear him moan her name again as her hands wrapped around him. How those moments when they just existed in his bed before Delilah knocked on his door looking for her were some of the most relaxing and perfect moments in her life. How she would never know that sort of peace again if Aden decided that this was too much. That they were cursed from the start and he didn’t want to deal with that.
“I think I’m finished.” Evan sat on her bed across from Aden and hoped that they would have some time to talk. Delilah’s phone chirped, apparently another friend had just arrived after a short stint in rehab and Delilah just had to visit, she asked if Evan would tag along, but she waved her best friend off,
“Nah, I think it’s Netflix and chill time.” Delilah scurried off and Evan just looked across the small gap between herself and Aden, hoping with everything that they would be able to figure out what this was with each other. The door closed and Evan felt every ounce of her willpower just race away with Delilah. Evan leaned forward and kissed Aden, recapturing the lips that she had been dreaming about since they met so many years ago.
what if the way we started made us something cursed from the start?
